England Beat Germany To Win 2022 Women's European Championship, It's Actually Coming Home

Image
It's finally coming home. England women have secured a major piece of silverware for the first time after beating great rivals Germany in a pulsating European Championship final. Sarina Wiegman's side, who beat Austria, Norway, Northern Ireland, Spain and Sweden on their way to the final, took the lead through substitute Ella Toone. Georgia Stanway picked up the ball in midfield before knocking it across to Keira Walsh, who fed Toone with a perfectly-weighted through ball. The 22-year-old then did this to send Wembley into a frenzy. How good was that? And with her second touch of the game, as well. Here's how social media reacted to the finish.

How Manchester United should line up vs Atletico Madrid in pre-season friendly

Image
Manchester United will play Atletico Madrid in Oslo on Saturday afternoon. United have gone undefeated in pre-season this summer after their tour of Thailand and Australia, which gave Erik ten Hag's side the opportunity to play friendly fixtures against Liverpool, Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. Ten Hag has preferred to start this summer's pre-season matches with a strong starting line up and the same is expected in Oslo. Choose the team you think should start here:

Manchester United have had transfer package agreed for the last ten days, says Fabrizio Romano

Image
Manchester United have had a transfer package agreed with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong for the last ten days, according to Fabrizio Romano. The deal is still not progressing, however, due to the fact that the Netherlands international remains unsure about swapping the Nou Camp for Old Trafford. See Romano’s video below for an update on the De Jong situation, with the Italian reporter stating that he unfortunately can’t give Man Utd fans much more information than he’s already given them, with the former Ajax midfielder still keen to remain with his current club instead of making a move this summer… It seems clear the De Jong deal isn’t going anywhere, and there must be other decent options out there who could also do a job for United.

Sir Alex Ferguson arrives at Man United’s training ground as Ronaldo returns for talks

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to Manchester United this morning after announcing his desire to leave the club during the current transfer window.  The Portugal international has a year left on his Man United contract but it has been widely reported that he wishes to play Champions League football next season and therefore, leave the Manchester club. The 37-year-old missed the entirety of United’s pre-season tour and has returned to Manchester this morning for the first time for talks, alongside his agent Jorge Mendes. Former Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was also seen arriving at Carrington but it is understood he is there for a regular board meeting with chief executive Richard Arnold, reports Sky Sports, but many will be a bit sceptical about those claims. This will be the first time Erik ten Hag will get to speak to Ronaldo since taking over as Man United manager and will likely try to convince the Portugal international to stay for another season. Writing in his l...

Man United coaching staff notice 1 key Anthony Martial change in pre-season — explained

Image
Anthony Martial has emerged as a key player for Manchester United in pre-season, scoring three goals in four games. As per the Daily Mail, the club's coaching staff describe the Frenchman as 'a much more cheerful individual' compared to before. New manager Erik ten Hag has also been impressed with the forward's work in training ahead of the new season, according to The Athletic. Martial looks set to start in the Premier League opener against Brighton on August 7 even if Cristiano Ronaldo decided to stay at Old Trafford this summer.

Top Manchester United target only wants transfer to Chelsea

Image
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has reportedly decided he only wants to leave the club if he gets a transfer to Chelsea. Although the Netherlands international appreciates the interest from his old manager Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, it seems he’s made up his mind that he’d rather move to Stamford Bridge than Old Trafford, according to Sport. It remains to be seen if Chelsea will step up their interest in De Jong as a midfielder perhaps doesn’t make sense as an urgent priority for them at the moment. Having struggled for goals last season, the Blues surely need to replace the departing Romelu Lukaku and bring in upgrades on out-of-form attackers like Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic. Meanwhile, Chelsea also lost key defenders in Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer, so could do with someone else to come in alongside recent signing Kalidou Koulibaly. De Jong is undoubtedly a top player, but CFC already have N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo ...

Cristiano Ronaldo tipped to face repercussions from Erik ten Hag after “big distraction” at Man Utd this summer

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo is back at Manchester United today, and it’s not yet clear what this will mean for his long-term future at Old Trafford. The Portugal international missed Man Utd’s pre-season tour, but is now back at Carrington for what will presumably be a key meeting with the club’s new manager Erik ten Hag. Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside about the situation, former Red Devils midfielder Luke Chadwick suggested that Ronaldo could face some consequences for this distracting saga in Ten Hag’s first summer in charge. Chadwick has pointed out that it seems clear that Ten Hag is running a stricter regime than has previously been in place at United, and that this is far from the kind of thing the Dutchman would’ve wanted in his first few months at the helm. Overall, though, the former United midfielder made it clear he’d like to see Ronaldo stay after his strong performances for the club last season. “It’s an interesting one, we’ve all been waiting with baited breath for an outcom...

Van de Beek starts: confirmed Man Utd lineup vs Aston Villa

Image
Manchester United are preparing for their fourth and final tour game outside Europe as they face Aston Villa in Perth, with Erik ten Hag aiming to make it four wins from as many games in his maiden summer. Ten Hag has made just two changes from the side that comfortably won against Crystal Palace earlier this week, with Luke Shaw and Donny van de Beek replacing Tyrell Malacia and Scott McTominay. The 90-minute affair with Aston Villa is Van de Beek’s first start of the tour and he will be eager to impress ahead of the new season. Further up the pitch, United’s free-scoring trio keeps their places and another couple of goals between them would cap off a flawless tour so far. United will travel back to Manchester after the game against Steven Gerrard’s side before a friendly against Atletico Madrid in Oslo next week. Manchester United lineup (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw; Van de Beek, Fred; Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial

Jesse Lingard Joins Nottingham Forest On One-Year Deal After Leaving Manchester United

Image
Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has signed a one-year deal with Nottingham Forest. Lingard, 29, joins as a free agent after leaving United at the end of last season when his contract expired at Old Trafford. West Ham, Newcastle and a number of MLS sides had been linked with the England international but he has now signed a short-term deal with Forest, who were promoted to the Premier League after beating Huddersfield in the Championship play-off final in May. Jamie Carragher weighs in on Man United’s Premier League chances next season

Image
Manchester United are preparing for one of their most important seasons ever. Last season saw the Red Devils put in one of their worst ever campaigns and failure to qualify for the Champions League next time out will see Erik ten Hag start his United career in the Europa League. Preparation will be key though and ten Hag has so far overseen a 100 per cent win record during his side’s pre-season tour, including scoring 11 goals and conceding just two. Although many fans will not expect the Red Devils to start next season and automatically challenge for the Premier League title, they won’t wait forever, which is why ten Hag must get the team fit and firing as quickly as possible. Speaking about the prospect of seeing United close the gap on rival duo Manchester City and Liverpool, Kop legend Jamie Carragher, who spoke to Sky Sports, said: “I wouldn’t say nervous. I think there’s a long road for United that they’re on at the moment in terms of challenging for the title. “I think the...

Revealed: Ronaldo’s desperate plan to escape Man United as Real Madrid’s stance becomes clear

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo does not want to spend next season with Manchester United. The former Real Madrid Galactico re-joined the Red Devils last summer. However, although the Portuguese megastar netted a brace against Newcastle United on his second Old Trafford debut, things turned sourer the closer we got to the end of the season. Failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League has meant the 37-year-old now wants to move to a club competing for Europe’s most prestigious trophy. Although United are adamant the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is not up for sale, the attacker’s super-agent Jorge Mendes appears to have other ideas. According to a recent report by CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs, Ronaldo is willing to take a financial hit in order to force a move away from Old Trafford.

Just In: Manchester United star wears Cristiano Ronaldo’s training kit during pre-season

Image
Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has been spotted wearing Cristiano Ronaldo’s training kit during pre-season. There’s been plenty of speculation surrounding the future of Ronaldo this summer, with Fabrizio Romano confirming to CaughtOffside that the Portuguese forward was becoming frustrated. The 37-year-old is yet to link up with his Manchester United teammates during pre-season, and has been training on his own. Now, his teammate and fellow countryman Dalot has been spotted wearing his training kit, despite wearing his usual number ’20’ kit during the early stages of pre-season, as seen over on SportsKeeda. Other players have been spotted wearing their usual shirt numbers, including Raphael Varane, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Tyrell Malacia, as seen in the tweet below.

Van de Beek hails United skipper for shaking off boos in Melbourne

Image
Donny van de Beek believes Harry Maguire showed “big personality” with his reaction to the booing during the opening stages of Manchester United’s pre-season friendly against Crystal Palace in Melbourne. The pre-season tour is going to plan for Erik ten Hag as United have won three matches from three. On top of that, the performances have been encouraging. Anthony Martial opened the scoring against Palace before Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho finished the scoring as United’s attacking trio from the starting XI got on the scoresheet. Palace scored a consolation goal near the end thanks to Joel Ward, but they weren’t at the races on Tuesday. United were far superior to another pre-season opponent… Van de Beek came on in the second half and registered his first goal contribution on tour when he set up Rashford. The Dutch midfielder, who will be eager to impress in a United shirt this season, thinks Maguire bounced back well from the boos with a strong performance. “I heard as well,...

Harry Maguire 'Booed With Every Touch' By Man United Fans In Australia

Image
Harry Maguire was 'booed with every touch' by Manchester United fans in Australia for their pre-season game against Crystal Palace. Maguire started his side's third game of their Australia tour, but was met with a chorus of boos during the match on Tuesday. Fans in attendance at the Melbourne Cricket Ground ruthlessly booed Maguire every time he got on the ball. The boos didn't effect his game, with the 29-year-old producing a brilliant pass in the first-half.

Ten Hag on signing Eredivisie players for Man United: 'English players are quite expensive'

Image
After beating Crystal Palace 3-1 in the third pre-season game, Erik ten Hag was asked about the influx of players from Holland at Manchester United. Lisandro Martinez has joined from Ajax while Tyrell Malacia arrived for Feyenoord. Even Christian Eriksen, who joined for free, has played for Ajax in the past. Ten Hag smiled and replied: "I would like to sign English players because I think there is only one criteria and that's quality in combination with the price. "It looks like English players are quite expensive. It's a fact you cannot deny. In the end, it's about quality." Well, Ten Hag has hit the nail on the head, considering we paid £50 million for Aaron Wan-Bissaka back in 2019. United also brought in Harry Maguire for £80 million in addition to the £73 million we paid for Jadon Sancho.

'We missed that for a while': Bruno welcomes Ten Hag's focus on discipline

Image
"I think we missed that for a while, and I think, for me, the way I see discipline is important," Bruno Fernandes told ESPN when asked about Erik ten Hag's strict regime at Man United. "For me, discipline is not only the way you play on the pitch, the position that you have, what you have to do, it's also off the pitch -- don't be late for the meetings, don't be late for the meals. "I think that's really important because if everyone is on time and someone comes late, he should be punished and I think that's really good that he's doing that and for me amazing, because I like to be on time, so I won't have problems with that." Bruno's words could be a dig at Ralf Rangnick or Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. For years, discipline on and off the pitch was rumoured to be a problem - and that's something the new boss felt the need to address from the start. A few weeks ago, it was reported that Ten Hag set a few rules for his players. ...

SHOCKING: Bruno Fernandes speaks out on Cristiano Ronaldo's desire to leave Man United

Image
"I don't know, obviously Cristiano was our top scorer last season, he added goals to us, but obviously it's not on me, it’s the club that has to make the choices and Cristiano makes his own choice," Bruno Fernandes told The Athletic when asked about Ronaldo's apparent desire to leave Man United. "I don’t know what’s going on in his head, if he wants to leave, it’s all about news. I didn’t ask them that. "The only thing I asked Cristiano, when he didn’t turn up, was if everything was okay with the family, he told me what was going on, that’s it and nothing more. "We have to respect the decision of everyone. I don’t know what Cristiano said to the club, to the manager, I don’t know what is going on in his head, but we have to respect his space. "From everything we know, he had some family problems, so we have to give him some space and that’s it."

Just In: Manchester United show strong interest in potential free transfer

Image
Manchester United are reportedly interested in the free agent and former Borussia Dortmund defender Dan-Axel Zagadou.  According to French outlet Media Foot Marseille, the Red Devils have joined Inter Milan in pursuing the French centre-back, with the club said to be ‘very interested’ in his signature. The 23-year-old endured a turbulent career in Germany after obtaining multiple injuries, leading him to only appear in 15 Bundesliga games last season. As a result, Dortmund declined to offer the youngster a contract extension after it expired in June this year. The Frenchman joined the German side from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 and had become the backbone of Dortmund’s defence before his injury setbacks during the 2021/22 campaign. Manchester United look to rebuild their squad this season and have already completed the signings of Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez. Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag is known for his ability to develop elite footballers, and Z...

Ten Hag issues key demand to United attackers after another impressive pre-season display

Image
Erik ten Hag seems to know what he wants from his players. It’s clear that the former Ajax manager is tactically astute, but will he be able to get his message across to the team when the season begins in August? That was always a concern for Manchester United fans when the board started looking for a new manager. Some people liked Mauricio Pochettino, but Ten Hag was a clear favourite on all the polls. We’ve seen good managers come and go while the players continued to underperform. Following Ten Hag’s appointment, however, I was cautiously optimistic. Now, I can’t hide that I’m extremely encouraged by the way he has carried himself as manager a month into the job. It is another measure of progress that Ten Hag’s focus isn’t about making everyone happy at the club and putting smiles back on faces. He is point blank telling them what they must do in his team while they’re winning football matches convincingly. Ten Hag told MUTV he wants his team to press all day, saying (quotes v...

Why Cristiano Ronaldo may stay at Man United after all — explained

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to turn up for Manchester United pre-season training amid strong concerns over his future. The 37-year-old is reportedly not pleased about missing Champions League football next season. He was also believed to be appalled by United's lack of transfers (at the time of writing, we are already done with three deals). Unfortunately for Ronaldo, things are changing at United. We have won both of our pre-season games so far. There is also a clear improvement in our gameplay. This doesn't bode well for the Portuguese, especially after his sister hinted at his desire to leave. Bayern Munich and Chelsea have both ruled themselves out of the race while Paris Saint-Germain have turned down a move. Realistically, there are not many European clubs that could afford his £500,000-per-week wages. Ronaldo had a lucrative offer from a Saudi Arabian club but he doesn't wish to move to the Middle East. Given the complicated situation, it looks like Ronaldo will have t...

Martinez in, No Eriksen: what Man United's most expensive XI looks like after summer transfers

Image
Man United have made three signings so far in the summer transfer windows to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s squad. The Red Devils have signed Christian Eriksen as a free agent, as well as roping in Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez from the Eredivisie. These arrivals have had quite the impact on United’s most expensive XI. Here’s what the updated version of it looks like.

BREAKING: Manchester United To Offer Donny Van De Beek In Swap Deal For Midfielder

Image
Manchester United are set to offer Donny Van de Beek as part of a swap deal for AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer.  The Dutch midfielder has so far failed to live up to the hype that came with his signing from Ajax in 2020. He was sent out on loan to Everton for the second half of the 21/22 season but again failed to get regular game time.  Van de Beek has since returned to United and has featured under new boss Erik ten Hag during the team’s first two pre season games. But it is looking increasingly likely that his time at Old Trafford could be at an end. According to Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato, Van de Beek has been included in a potential swap deal for Milan’s Algerian midfielder Bennacer.  Bennacer was a key member of the Milan side which won the Serie A title, therefore any deal to lure the player away from Italy will not be cheap.  The report from Calcio Mercato stated that the San Siro club values Bennacer in the region of €45 million, United a...

Paul Pogba Shows Off Outrageous Skill During Juventus Training Session

Image
Pogba looks to be back to his best after showing off a piece of incredible skill during a training session with Juventus.  The 29-year-old returned to Turin this summer after his contract with Manchester United expired at the end of June. His second spell at Old Trafford was a disaster as his relationship with the United faithful turned sour. He will hope his second stint at Juventus will bring him more success.  Pogba looked on top form after a video emerged showcasing the midfielder’s incredible skill. He was seen picking up the ball before showing great composure and trickery to shimmy away from his marker, he then produced a beautifully executed back heel flick. Since the footage emerged, fans have been reacting on social media.  One fan said: “Oh my…Prime Pogba is back.”  Another added: “Give it to them PP.”  And a third tweeted: “Man that's some piece of skill”, with a shocked emoji.

Erik ten Hag clears air on Harry Maguire as a first-choice player ahead of new season

Image
Harry Maguire, Manchester United captain. Harry Maguire will remain a first-choice player under Erik ten Hag for the upcoming season... Maguire, like many, endured an underwhelming campaign last season. As a result, there has been much speculation about the Englishman’s Manchester United career. The club currently have six senior central defenders at the club and Maguire faces competition from Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelöf, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, and Axel Tuanzebe. Further questions surfaced after the club had confirmed the signing of Lisandro Martínez. The manager appeared to have put his faith in Maguire last week, in announcing that he will remain as captain of the club. This was met with much objection from social media, but Ten Hag is in the best position to analyse the squad. Despite this objection and the competition for places, Ten Hag has moved to stress that he will remain a first-choice player. Speaking in Melbourne, the manager was pressed on whether Maguire would...

Ten Hag reveals how long Cristiano Ronaldo could stay at Manchester United

Image
It has been well documented that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United before his contract expires next year. Although Ronaldo has yet to rejoin the squad for pre-season due to personal reasons, Erik ten Hag remains confident (at least publicly) that the veteran goalscorer will be playing at Old Trafford next season. Ten Hag even claimed Ronaldo could stay at United beyond his expiry of his contract with the club and that the 37-year-old is capable of fitting into his high-pressing style of football. “I am well informed – he also has an option [for a further season],” Ten Hag said, as per The Guardian. “Yes, [Ronaldo could stay beyond this season]. Of course I have signed here for three years but in football it’s short term as well. We have to win from the start. So I don’t look that far ahead.” That will obviously depend on whether Ronaldo stays this summer and what we achieve next season – because he won’t be extending that contract if United fail to qualify for the...

Manchester United Strongest Line-up Vs Crystal Palace Today

Image
Manchester United's pre-season campaign continues on Tuesday with a friendly clash against Premier League side Crystal Palace in Melbourne. Erik ten Hag is likely to completely change his team at the break once again but the Dutchman still has several dilemmas regardin g his starting XI selection. Some Man United players have been doing better than others so far and Ten Hag could reward the likes of Eric Bailly and Zidane Iqbal with a place in the starting XI against Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

How Man Utd could line up against Crystal Palace with Zidane Iqbal, 19, pushing for spot after wowing Erik ten Hag

Image
ZIDANE IQBAL could be handed his first Manchester United start for their penultimate game in Australia after impressing boss Erik ten Hag. The 19-year-old is in line to be named in the United line-up against Crystal Palace on Tuesday following his cameos in the wins over Liverpool and Melbourne Victory. Red Devils fans have lauded the midfielder's displays during pre-season as they likened him to namesake Zinedine. Iqbal, who signed a long-term contract at Old Trafford last month, made his first team against Young Boys in the Champions League in December. And the Iraq international could now be handed a spot in Ten Hag's starting XI for their clash with the Eagles at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Here SunSport takes a look at how United face Patrick Vieira's men.

BRAKING: Manchester United recieve huge boost in Antony pursuit

Image
Stretford Paddock run us through the latest headlines surrounding Manchester United. Joe is in Melbourne for the pre-season tour to give us a run down on the latest updates in the transfer window. Apparently, a move for Antony could be back on the cards. My thinking is that would be down to whether Ajax want to lower their valuation for the player because the money touted for the Brazilian winger this summer was ridiculous. There’s also updates on Frenkie de Jong from the mainstream media…

Varane and Rashford to start — Manchester United predicted line up vs Crystal Palace

Image
Marcus Rashford, Raphael Varane and David de Gea could all return to the starting XI as Manchester United take on Crystal Palace on Tuesday. Erik ten Hag has had a positive start to life as United boss with back-to-back victories over Liverpool and Melbourne Victory in his first two outings. His side will return to facing Premier League opposition for their third friendly when they take on Palace — the team that beat them on the final day of last season. The new manager has been starting with strong sides in his first two games in charge, rather than experiment with the youngsters he has brought with him, and there is no hint that will change against the Eagles. That's especially as he is likely to be boosted with some key returns. Predicted Man United line up vs Crystal Palace: De Gea; Dalot, Bailly, Varane, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford; Martial.

Just In: Fabrizio Romano names the two forwards he’d sign for Manchester United

Image
Manchester United’s search for new striker has been slowed down by the Cristiano Ronaldo situation, according to Fabrizio Romano. Writing in his exclusive CaughtOffside Substack column, Romano explains that Man Utd looked to be in for a new striker earlier this summer, with Darwin Nunez being one of their targets before he went to Liverpool. The Red Devils could do with replacing under-performing players like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, and Romano named some options he’d consider if he were in charge of the club’s recruitment process. Romano’s two favoured options are free agent Paulo Dybala, and exciting young Lille forward Jonathan David. “My understanding earlier in the summer was that Man United would 100% be in the market for a new central striker. They had an interest in Darwin Nunez before he went to Liverpool, but were unsure about the price,” Romano explained. “Since then, it’s certainly the case that the situation of Cristiano Ronaldo has surprised and slowed down Ma...

Erik ten Hag hints who could be his starting centre-back partnership for Manchester United

Image
After recently signing Lisandro Martinez from Ajax, Manchester United now have multiple options in defence ahead of the new season. Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane are the two centre-backs who usually played together last season, but the addition of Martinez has raised questions as to who Erik ten Hag will opt with come the start of the season. Of course, rotation is always necessary throughout the season, but a centre-back partnership is often important for success. The Dutch manager has spoken out on who we could potentially see lining up in the Manchester United defence in an interview relayed by the Mirror. “I think the players who are there, we have the perspective immediately to contribute and also Martinez. We bring him in to not strengthen the squad, but the team,” said Ten Hag, when asked whether Martinez would go straight into his team. This may be hinting that Martinez will be brought straight into the starting eleven, and with Maguire and Varane both right-footed players, ...

Luke Shaw gives honest on Erik Ten Hag improvement on Manchester United

Image
Manchester United have quite a lot of work to do before last season’s catastrophic Premier League campaign is forgotten but Erik ten Hag has made an impressive start to life at the club. United endured a slow start to the transfer window and when pre-season began, the mood among supporters was low. Two positive results and a couple of signings later, spirits have drastically changed. Four goals in consecutive games have ensured a winning start for Ten Hag and according to Luke Shaw, who started both games, the Dutchman has already overseen a ‘big improvement’ in the side. “We can’t be satisfied anymore with how the team had been going,” Shaw told the official Manchester United website. “It’s not where the club should be and we know the levels have had to take a massive step in terms of higher intensity and what we’re supposed to be doing and I think from the start of the last two weeks, especially in training, it’s definitely a big improvement.  “And even in the games, I think you ...
