Why Cristiano Ronaldo may stay at Man United after all — explained

Cristiano Ronaldo is yet to turn up for Manchester United pre-season training amid strong concerns over his future.

The 37-year-old is reportedly not pleased about missing Champions League football next season. He was also believed to be appalled by United's lack of transfers (at the time of writing, we are already done with three deals).

Unfortunately for Ronaldo, things are changing at United. We have won both of our pre-season games so far. There is also a clear improvement in our gameplay.

This doesn't bode well for the Portuguese, especially after his sister hinted at his desire to leave.

Bayern Munich and Chelsea have both ruled themselves out of the race while Paris Saint-Germain have turned down a move.

Realistically, there are not many European clubs that could afford his £500,000-per-week wages.

Ronaldo had a lucrative offer from a Saudi Arabian club but he doesn't wish to move to the Middle East.

Given the complicated situation, it looks like Ronaldo will have to accept that pay cut and fulfill the year left on his United contract.
