Fabio da Silva rejects idea of Cristiano Ronaldo joining Man City over Man Utd
Cristiano Ronaldo’s spectacular return to Manchester United over the summer was one of the stories of the summer, with the 36-year-old completing the homecoming 12 years after he left the club for Real Madrid.
Ronaldo had ended the previous season as the top scorer of Serie A, ahead of Romelu Lukaku, who had completed a €115m move to Chelsea just days prior, according to Transfermarkt.
There were, however, some drama leading up to the days of Manchester United’s official confirmation of Ronaldo’s second coming. Manchester City were rumoured to be close to signing Ronaldo, which would have been a dagger straight to the heart of the Old Trafford faithful.
Seeing Ronaldo represent the other half of the city after his success under Sir Alex Ferguson would have been unforgivable and former Manchester United defender Fabio da Silva, who played with Ronaldo at the club, has now rejected the idea that a move to City was ever possible.
“Man, I couldn’t imagine it. When they told me, I couldn’t believe it,” Da Silva told ESPN Brazil, via Sport Witness.
“It was Pedro, who plays here with me, who said: ‘Manchester City are almost done with Cristiano’. I said: ‘It’s not possible’. I didn’t believe it at any point.
“I don’t know if it was a move made by Jorge Mendes, his manager, to create something because that’s what happens nowadays. I’m just saying that because I don’t have any idea.
