Video: Manchester City beats Liverpool to secure the Premier League title

Image
Manchester City have won a fourth Premier League title in five years after Pep Guardiola’s side beat Aston Villa 3-2 on a dramatic final day of the 2021-22 season. Their closest challengers, Liverpool, won 3-1 against Aston Villa at home, meaning City won the title by a solitary point. City were 2-0 down after goals from Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho, but roared back in the final 15 minutes of the game. Ilkay Gundogan headed past Robin Olsen in the 76th minute to pull one back, with the Swedish keeper then failing to keep out Rodri's driven strike two minutes later.

Manchester United are losing at half-time to Crystal Palace, with incoming manager Erik ten Hag in attendance to watch his future side before being unveiled tomorrow. Thus far, there hasn’t been too much to smile about for Ten Hag but one Manchester United player has scored a goal, with Donny van de Beek netting his first for Everton at Arsenal. Everton secured safety in the Premier League in dramatic fashion earlier this week, coming back from two goals down to win against Crystal Palace. That game was Van de Beek’s first game back in the matchday squad for several weeks, having been on the sidelines with a muscle injury.

With Klopp's side ahead finally, a draw at the Etihad would win them the title, and footage showed that fans were led to believe Steven Gerrard's team had grabbed a third goal, as celebration reverberated around Anfield, only for the real news to be revealed.
