Manchester United have taken the lead over Tottenham through Cristiano Ronaldo. The Norwegian made the decision to switch to a three at the back formation, partnering Edison Cavani with Cristiano Ronaldo in attack.

Wan-Bissaka - 9, Ronaldo - 8: Man United players rated in Tottenham win

Image
Wan-Bissaka - 9/10 Alert, vigilant and effective. Made a difference on both ends and did full justice to the wing-back position. Tackled well and provided support to the attackers numerous times. Varane - 9/10 Varane couldn't have returned at a better time - he read the game well and his presence helped Harry Maguire play higher up. Victor Lindelof also looked less vulnerable alongside the Frenchman. Fred - 7/10 Pressed well, almost scored a goal and linked the attack and defence well. Definitely an improvement from last weekend. Ronaldo - 8/10 What a goal, what a finish and what an assist. Was withdrawn towards the end of the game but was effective as long as he played. Cavani - 8/10 Looked lethal alongside Ronaldo and his work rate was impeccable as always. Scored with a splendid finish and he should start games more often.

Manchester United are in action against Tottenham this afternoon as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have an opportunity to redeem themselves after last weekend’s embarrassing defeat to Liverpool. United have been poor recently, losing to Aston Villa, Leicester City and Liverpool in the league, and drawing with Everton.  United have only beaten Villarreal and Atalanta – both in the UEFA Champions League since they beat West Ham United in the league back in September.  United need to find a way out of this poor form whilst they can still make amends.

(Video) Reece James bags second stunning strike as Chelsea punish sorry Newcastle United

Image
Reece James has done it again. The Chelsea right-back has scored a SECOND screamer of the game to sign and seal the points away at Newcastle United. James has been one of Chelsea’s most productive players in the Premier League this ca mpaign. Wing-back counterpart Ben Chilwell alike. The England international made the difference for the European champions once again as they struggled to find a breakthrough against a stubborn Newcastle United side this afternoon.

Video: Ramsdale makes save of the season for Arsenal to stop Leicester comeback

Image
As Leicester City went looking for a way back into the Saturday lunchtime game against Arsenal, their chance arrived just before half-time. The Foxes were awarded a free-kick just outside the box, and as dead ball specialist, James Maddison, took aim, it looked for all the world as if the ball was going to nestle in the top corner. Somehow Gunners keeper, Aaron Ramsdale, with the sun full in his face, managed to pull off an epic full-length one-handed save to keep his clean sheet, and even had the wherewithal to get straight up and repel the follow up too. Incredible.

Predicted XI: [4-1-4-1] Cavani, Rashford, Fernandes, Van de Beek and Sancho to start against Spurs? Tactics need to change!

How Man United could line up under Antonio Conte: Major tactical change & three new faces

Image
With Antonio Conte being linked with the Manchester United job, CaughtOffside have considered how the Red Devils could line up under the Italian’s stewardship. The pressure is mounting on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following Man United’s dismal 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford. The club legend appears to have survived, for now, but any more negative results could spell the end of his time in the hot-seat. According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, Antonio Conte would take the Red Devils job in a heartbeat. Conte, though rough around the edges, virtually guarantees success and silverware, something United are in dire need of. While Solskjaer is still in charge and there doesn’t appear to have been any approach for Conte at this point in time, we’ve considered how Man United could line up under the Italian, should he eventually be appointed. Were Conte to be appointed tomorrow without the prospect of signing players, he’d have to establish an XI that’d stop the rot and tighten Man ...

Video: What Donny van de Beek was doing at Old Trafford after Liverpool disaster

Image
Donny van de Beek's reaction to Manchester United's humiliating 5–0 defeat against Liverpool has been caught on camera. The Dutchman was an unused substitute for the Old Trafford clash (for the sixth consecutive game) despite the Red Devils' continuing struggles in midfield. And the 24-year-old was spotted doing runs on the pitch with a coach long after the home ground had been empty as he continues to wait for his chance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Video: West Ham’s Said Benrahma ends Man City’s five-year Carabao Cup domination with decisive penalty

Image
After five years and one day, and four consecutive Carabao Cup titles, Manchester City have been dumped out of the competition, on penalties by West Ham United. David Moyes’ side go from strength to strength, beating a City side that were full of their regular starters and who had clearly come to the London Stadium to win the tie. The Hammers kept Pep Guardiola’s swashbucklers goalless in 90 minutes, and with no extra-time, the game went straight to penalties.

Video: Minamino continues his great scoring run with the opener against Preston

Image
Although it took until just after the hour mark for Liverpool to make their dominance count in the Carabao Cup tie against Preston North End, when the opening goal came, it was worth the wait. Some doggedness in possession from Neco Williams saw him get to the byline and, despite the close attentions of two defenders, he still managed to pick out Takumi Minamino. Though he was also being closely watched, Minamino managed to stick out a foot and divert the ball goalwards.

Video: Watch the penalty shootout at Reece James fires Chelsea past Southampton

Image
Chelsea had more than enough chances to put this game way, but the lack of extra time in the EFL Cup these days means we go straight to penalties. It did give stand-in keeper Kepa the chance to atone for his earlier error and become the hero for the night, and he made one great save to deny Theo Walcott, while Will Smallbone ballooned his effort over the bar. That meant it was left to Reece James to dispatch the deciding spot-kick as Chelsea make it through to the next round:

Video: Cristiano Ronaldo appears to kick Curtis Jones, gets yellow card

Cristiano Ronaldo was desperate to score a goal before half-time and while fighting for the ball with Curtis Jones, the latter slipped and fell. (Video) Ronaldo frustrations on full display as star boots Liverpool midfielder

Image
Manchester United – hang your heads in shame. Currently, in action against bitter rivals Liverpool, the Red Devils, playing in front of a packed Old Trafford, have absolutely disappeared. The game’s first half, which has seen Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool battered United all over the pitch, currently sees a thumping scoreboard read four goals to nill. Ouch. The Red Devils have been so poor, in every area of the pitch, that world-class attacker Cristiano Ronaldo has been forced to feed off scraps. Minutes before the half-time break, the Portuguese megastar was spotted being beaten to a loose ball by Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones. Having come away second best, United’s number seven then proceeded to take his frustrations out on the midfielder by kicking out leaving referee Anthony Taylor no choice but to show him a yellow card.

(Video) Paul Pogba is sent off for reckless challenge 15 minutes after coming on vs. Liverpool

Image
Manchester United have produced an utterly embarrassing performance against Liverpool as they conceded five goals within the first 55 minutes of the game. The result, which comes with a feeling of doomsday, has extended their run of winless games to four. Solskjaer is out of excuses now and with one week to go before their next game against Tottenham, pressure will be mounting like never before. Naby Keita gave Liverpool the lead at Old Trafford, Diogo Jota doubled it before a double from Mohamed Salah ensured a handsome lead at half-time for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Manchester United have been battered at Old Trafford! The Red Devils were thumped 5-0 by arch-rivals Liverpool and while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will undoubtedly be fearing for his job, he isn’t the only one inside the club taking criticism from fans. While warming up earlier this afternoon, midfielder Jesse Lingard was spotted responding to fans who were voicing their concerns over their team’s poor performance by saying “I am not on the pitch!”

Video: Sir Alex Ferguson’s reaction to Man United going 5-0 down to Liverpool sums it all up

Watch below as Fergie reacts to the embarrassing score-line just as you’d expect, looking thoroughly miserable… Paul Pogba’s been sent off now as well, so this could get even worse for Man Utd…

Video: Pogba was only on the pitch for 14 minutes before this, with the France international clearly not in the right state of mind to enter this game. What a mess from Man Utd all round.

Watch below as this reckless studs-up tackle saw Keita stretchered off at Old Trafford, with Pogba rightly given his marching orders… Pogba was only on the pitch for 14 minutes before this, with the France international clearly not in the right state of mind to enter this game. What a mess from Man Utd all round.

Video: Cristiano Ronaldo throws a major strop and is lucky not to be sent off for Man United vs Liverpool

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo is clearly not a happy man right now as Manchester United are being thrashed at home to Liverpool. Watch below as the Portugal international lashed out at Trent Alexander-Arnold in a moment of petulance at Old Trafford. Was Ronaldo lucky to stay on the pitch here? It seems like he only kicks the ball, but it’s a little overly aggressive and could have done his opponent real harm…

Video: Mohamed Salah continues superb form to make it Man Utd 0-3 Liverpool in the 38th minute

Image
Mohamed Salah has made it 3-0 to Liverpool as this threatens to get very, very embarrassing for Manchester United. Early goals from Naby Keita and Diogo Jota gave the Reds an early 2-0 lead, and Salah has just made it 3-0 before half time. Watch below as Man Utd’s defence was once again all over the place, with Salah the one to pounce this time with a clinical finish from close range…

Video: Diogo Jota makes it 2-0 to Liverpool as Man United make it far too easy for their visitors

Image
Liverpool have raced into a 2-0 lead away to Manchester United, with Diogo Jota scoring the second from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross. Watch below as Jurgen Klopp’s side assert their dominance in this game with some fine flowing football once again, though it’s also another case of an absolute horror-show for Man Utd at the back… It’s hard to imagine the Red Devils can come back from this, though they were 2-0 down to Atalanta in their Champions League tie in midweek, and went on to snatch a dramatic 3-2 victory.

Video: Naby Keita opens the scoring for Liverpool as Man United defence goes missing

Image
Naby Keita has made it 1-0 to Liverpool away to Manchester United this afternoon, finding the back of the net after just five minutes at Old Trafford. It has to be said, as well as Liverpool passed their way through Man Utd here, it’s also pretty shocking defending from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, who continue to look sloppy, particularly at home. Just watch the video clip below as Keita punishes this sloppy defending after being picked out by Mohamed Salah, who was in acres of space and who had plenty of options to pick from, with the United back line simply nowhere to be s

Video: Kane at fault as Michail Antonio stabs West Ham ahead against Tottenham

Image
With 20 minutes left to play of the London derby between West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur, the match appeared to be destined to be heading towards a 0-0 draw. Both defences had been on top throughout, with goal scoring chances at a premium. There was no real class about the opener when it arrived, and it owed much to Harry Kane’s lack of defensive awareness as anything else. As a West Ham corner came in, Kane’s pathetic attempt at stopping Michail Antonio got the treatment it deserved as the attacker just flung out a leg and diverted the ball past Hugo Lloris.

Predicted XI: 4-1-4-1 formation to press Liverpool? Ronaldo, Rashford, Pogba, Van de Beek and Sancho to lead the attack? Matic in defensive midfield?

Manchester United return to Premier League action as they welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Last season, Liverpool ran riot at the Theatre of Dreams and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be tasked with trying to change that this season.  United came from behind against Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening, scoring three second half goals to take all three points in the group stage match, which puts them at the top of their group with six points in three matches. Two more wins and avoiding a defeat in the last group stage match should be enough to put United through this season. Liverpool sit in second place in the Premier League ahead of this match with 18 points, four more than United who sit in sixth place with 14 points. That will change before the two sides kick off at the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday afternoon.  United need to find three points in the league after no winning for the past month, beating West Ham United at the London ...

Thomas Tuchel loves Mason Mount – which manager wouldn’t? That much was clear from his post-match interview today after the midfielder got a hattrick against Norwich. Tuchel said it would mean a lot for Mason because he pushes himself so hard.in training, and demands so much of himself. It’s going to be vital for the team that Mason keeps this scoring form up while our two lead strikers are injured. No wonder Tuchel is so happy to see him find his shooting boots at last this season – just in time.

(Video) Mount bags hattrick vs. Norwich City following selfless Loftus-Cheek assist

Image
Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has netted a well-deserved hattrick against Daniel Farke’s Norwich City. Manager Thomas Tuchel will be pleased that his young English playmaker has stepped up to fill the void left by the recently injured duo of Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner. Coming into Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off against the Canaries, the Blues, who sat top of the Premier League, will undoubtedly retain their top spot following a thumping 7-0 victory. After opening the game’s scoring and then converting from the spot, with just minutes to go, Mount managed to secure his hattrick after teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek opted against going for goal himself.

In the end it was an easy night’s work for Pep Guardiola’s Man City side in the Champions League. Club Brugge started the tie ahead of their visitors, but by the end of the match were leapfrogged by them after a magnificent goal scoring performance from the Citizens. Joao Cancelo had opened the scoring before a Riyad Mahrez spot-kick had put them in control before the break. Kyle Walker and Cole Palmer, with his first-ever Champions League goal, had put City in complete control, before Fernandinho’s simple late ball over the top gave Mahrez the easiest of finishes for the fifth.

(Video) Mason Mount adds Chelsea’s sixth from the spot vs. Norwich City

Image
Chelsea has been rampant against Daniel Farke’s Norwich City during the opening Premier League match of the weekend. Following goals from Mason Mount, Callum Hudson-odoi, Reece James and Ben Chilwell, as well as an unfortunate own goal, Thomas Tuchel’s Blues raced to an impressive five-goal lead. However, refusing to take their foot off the gas, the Blues won a penalty kick after midfielder Normann was deemed to have handled the ball inside his own area.

(Video): Ben Chilwell scores again as Chelsea go 4 up against pathetic Norwich

Image
Chelsea are running riot at Stamford Bridge, and they now have their fourth goal. Ben Chilwell took a while to earn his place in the first XI this season, but now he can’t stop scoring. Norwich are so bad, we don’t want to get overexcited, but there’s no denying it’s great to see Chelsea back clicking in attack. Chilwell’s finish was lovely, cutting across the ball so it flew away from the keeper into the far corner, but it was just so easy to work the space for him to shoot. You can see the goal in the clip embedded here:

(Video) Reece James leaves Tim Krul stranded after converting delicious chip vs. Norwich City

Image
The Blues quickly raced to a two nill lead following early goals from Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-odoi. Norwich City will now be wondering just how many Chelsea are going to score during Saturday’s Premier League match. Daniel Farke will be heading into the break knowing his side aren’t going to turn it around and will therefore be trying to find a way to limit the damage instead.

(Video) Excellent ball from Mateo Kovacic perfectly sets up Callum Hudson-odoi vs. Norwich City

Image
Chelsea is on fire in the early stages of Saturday’s Premier League match against Norwich City. Despite playing bottom-of-the-table Norwich City, manager Thomas Tuchel would have known that the weekend’s early kick-off still had the potential to be a dangerous fixture for the Blues. Undoubtedly instructed to get off to a quick start, the Blues have not disappointed after midfielder Mason Mount opened the game’s scoring inside the first 10-minutes.

Hudson Odoi scores a dramatic second Goal Chelsea 2-1 Norwich City

Image
Chelsea have their second, with 20 minutes not yet on the clock. This time is was Callum Hudson-Odoi, playing on his favoured left of attack, who got the goal. Norwich had the ball and were pushing forward, but the moment Chelsea had the ball back, the Canaries were in trouble. Mateo Kovacic released the winger with a perfect pass, and Hudson-Odoi sprinted through to go one on one with Tim Krul. CHO made no mistake with the finish.

(Video) Mason Mount drills Chelsea into early lead vs. Norwich City

Image
Having lost striking duo Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner through injury earlier this week, Chelsea will be delighted that midfielder Mason Mount is back. Knowing full well that his squad would need to fill the void left by Lukaku and Werner, Thomas Tuchel named a starting lineup for Saturday’s Premier League match against Norwich City that included both Mount and Kai Havertz. Looking to gain a quick advantage over bottom of the table Norwich City, the Blues could not have gotten off to a better start.
